December 3rd celebrates International Day of People with Disabilities. Together, we can fight for the rights of people with disabilities in the post-COVID era. Elsevier is proud to offer a free access special issue with over 50 book chapters and journal articles dedicated to fighting for the rights of people with disabilities in the post-COVID era.

To help create awareness and take steps towards eliminating violence against women, November 25th is designated as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Elsevier has curated a freely available Special Collection of book chapters and journal articles related to this important theme to highlight the urgent need to end violence against women and girls.

COP26 is the 2021 United Nations annual climate change conference. COP stands for Conference of the Parties. Parties are the signatories of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - a treaty agreed in 1994 which has 197 Parties (196 countries and the EU). The 2021 conference, hosted by the UK, together with our partners Italy, in Glasgow, will be the 26th meeting of the Parties, which is why it's called COP26.

This special issue of Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability (COSUST) brings together a collection of articles on environmental sustainability in relation to those adverse climate impacts –slow onset events--which unfold gradually over time. The special issue helps identify the gaps and challenges in understanding slow onset events and their local, national, and regional impacts, and possible approaches to manage these.

World Food Day is organized every year on October 16 to bring awareness to how our changing planet affects food production and distribution. World Alzheimer's Day is an international campaign organised by Alzheimer's Disease International to raise awareness and highlight issues faced by people affected by dementia. It takes place every year on September 21st and is the focus of World Alzheimer's Month. In support of this year’s theme – ‘Know dementia, know Alzheimer's’ - Elsevier presents a curated, open access collection of over 70 journal articles and book chapters focused on shining a light on the warning signs of dementia and the importance of a timely diagnosis.
