On 23 December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided, in its resolution 49/214, that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People shall be observed on 9 August every year. The date marks the first meeting, in 1982, of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations.

The International Day observance will take place online on Friday, 9 August 2024.

World Environment Day on June 5 is the biggest international day for the environment. Countries across the globe participate in this UN international day, with millions of people in government, business, civil society, schools and celebrities engaging online and in-person to raise awareness and influence environmental action. World Environment Day in 2024 focuses on restoring land, building drought resilience and stopping desertification under the campaign slogan, “Our Land.

The International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) is celebrated every year on 22 May to raise awareness of the importance and value of biodiversity and to increase understanding of biodiversity issues. The theme of IDB 2024, “Be part of the Plan”, is a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, or the “The Biodiversity Plan”. World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April.  This year’s theme "'My health, my right’ was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.
