This nationally representative study of deaths in India from 2019-2022 provides valuable sex-disaggregated insights on tuberculosis (TB) treatment coverage and outcomes. Key findings include:

Overall TB treatment coverage was similar for females (81.4%) and males (82.4%), but declined significantly for males diagnosed in 2021-2022 compared to 2019.

Barriers to starting or completing TB treatment were largely similar for females and males, highlighting the need for gender-responsive interventions.

Premature mortality from TB was observed, with lower mean age at death for those who never started or discontinued treatment, especially among lower wealth index males.
