Coastal zone in central Chile, delimitation proposal of Valparaiso region

• No consensus in coastal zone delimitation, being metric and administrative criteria predominate.

• Valparaiso coastal zone delimitation is developed to address ongoing management conflicts.

• 7 socio-ecological units are defined in the Valparaiso coastal zone.

• There is an urgent need for Chile to update its Coastal Law to achieve ICZM.
