Voluntourism with animals - benefits and challenges for animal and human welfare

It has become popular to work as a volunteer during one´s free time or vacation, often with animals abroad. These activities combine visits to exotic places within different cultures with the opportunity to help with husbandry, health and welfare of domestic, captive, feral and wild animals. Volunteer work may be an enriching experience and it is done with the best intentions for animals and, when applicable, their owners. Thus, volunteering with animals fits within the One Welfare-concept.
