A review of 648 studies shows that conservation efforts yield significantly better ecological outcomes when Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPs and LCs) have equitable governance roles, including equal partnerships or primary control. These findings highlight the importance of recognizing IP and LC rights and leadership in achieving global biodiversity targets.

Synergetic management of waste activated sludge, heavy metals (HMs) and CO2 for their valorization and cyclic utilization is rarely reported. Herein, we employed sludge-derived extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and HMs in wastewater to fabricate a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) for electrochemical CO2 reduction. This approach atomically dispersed Ni at each nanofiber of the GDE.

Knowledge of ecosystem-size influences on river populations and communities is integral to the balancing of human and environmental needs for water. The multiple dimensions of dendritic river networks complicate understanding of ecosystem-size influences, but could be resolved by the development of scaling relationships. We highlight the importance of physical constraints limiting predator body sizes, movements, and population sizes in small rivers, and where river contraction limits space or creates stressful conditions affecting community stability and food webs.

Wastewater treatment processes are generally expensive and energy-intensive, emitting greenhouse gases like methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide. One of the critical challenges in wastewater treatment is the removal of heavy metals, including cadmium, lead, arsenic, chromium, and zinc. THis artciles explores the use of biochar for the removal of Cd2+ and Zn2+.

The Himalayas, home to extensive glaciers that feed major rivers, are experiencing significant changes in runoff patterns due to accelerated glacial melt. This review highlights the challenges and uncertainties in glacio-hydrological modeling in the region, emphasizing the need for improved data collection and innovative modeling techniques to ensure sustainable water resource management for over a billion people reliant on these vital water sources.

This article provides an overview of the Age‐Friendly Emergency Department (AFED) model, a crucial component of a holistic age‐friendly health system with the potential to improve patient‐centered outcomes, reduce adverse events and hospitalizations, and enhance functional recovery. Age‐friendly healthcare is a comprehensive approach using the 4Ms framework—what matters, medications, mentation, and mobility—to ensure that healthcare settings are responsive to the needs of older patients.
