Although individuals from these groups may also prefer more life-sustaining treatments than others, on average, many do not endorse such preferences. System-level and clinician-level factors influence preferences and are the most appropriate targets for intervention. Quality of dying among individuals in these groups is worse than others, although contributory mechanisms have not been fully elucidated.
