Homelessness to Hope-- Chapter 11: Contextualizing the drivers of homelessness among women in Kolkata megacity: An exploratory study

This study focuses on the issue of homelessness in India, where 1.7 million individuals are reported to be homeless, with 41% being females. Most previous studies have not adequately considered the gender perspectives of homelessness. To address this gap, the study used qualitative approaches to explore the pathways of women's homelessness in the Kolkata megacity. The study identified environmental, structural, and interpersonal factors associated with women's homelessness, with structural elements being the leading cause. The study recommends implementing and strengthening multisectoral strategies to address the issue of homelessness in urban areas, particularly for women. These findings provide valuable insights into the issue of homelessness and offer policy and practice recommendations for addressing this issue.
