Unprecedented levels of travel, migration and displacement, environmental change, global trade and investment, and an increased flow of information and technology are having a pervasive impact on the determinants of health, the spread of disease and the functioning of health systems. As a consequence, it is increasingly recognized that many key determinants of health transcend national boundaries and the term ‘global health’ has been widely used to describe this phenomenon.
