Plastics have been widely used since their invention and have provided many conveniences to humans. However, lack of responsibility in managing plastic wastes has led to serious environmental pollution. This chapter provides an overview of types of commodity plastics, plastics and microplastics pollution, and availability of recycling methods. With sufficient knowledge of plastic materials, the community can still preserve the environment while enjoying the advantages of plastics.
