The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the importance of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) as related to research in applied behavior analysis. It will serve as an introduction to EDIA considerations, which are applicable in a wide range of scientific behaviors, including the topics that researchers choose to study, participant recruitment, and the cultural group that forms scientists within any one branch of science. It will review EDIA as related to the concepts of evidenced-based practices, ethical decision-making within research, and barriers to becoming a researcher. The authors acknowledge that EDIA is a systemic issue that is broad and multifaceted. While full considerations cannot be covered in this chapter, the goal is to discuss how researchers can begin engaging in more equitable practice and advance the science of behavior analysis by proactively cultivating these topics into their research practices.
