Climate Action

This study leverages crowdsourced urban climate data to provide more inclusive and granular insights into urban heat dynamics, addressing gaps in traditional monitoring that often overlook marginalized communities. By harnessing freely available citizen science observations, the method supports the World Population Day theme of "To Leave No One Behind, Count Everyone," enabling more equitable and comprehensive data to inform sustainable urban development and climate resilience.

The article discusses the impacts of climate change on the Torres Strait Islands in Australia and the culturally appropriate responses identified by the Torres Strait Islander community.�

The article describes the development of an interdisciplinary, case-based workshop to introduce refugee and immigrant health professionals to the ways in which climate change impacts the health of the communities they serve.

A brief external-facing summary: As a result of anthropogenic climate change, an alteration in the air mixture has occurred over time. These changes have increased human exposures to respiratory irritants such as ground-level ozone, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Regarding aeroallergens, studies have shown that elevated temperatures and increased carbon dioxide levels have produced prolonged and more robust pollen seasons for most taxa studied.

The Elsevier Foundation Chemistry for Climate Action Challenge is a collaboration between the Elsevier Foundation, a non-profit focused on inclusive research and health funded by Elsevier and Elsevier's Chemistry journals.  The Challenge represents a commitment from Elsevier to uncover practical, scalable solutions to specific issues caused by climate change in global South communities thereby advancing both Climate Action (SDG13) and Gender Equity (SDG5).

This research article presents a comprehensive review of the snow cover area, mass balance, glacial area loss, surface velocities, and the application of snowmelt runoff models in the Kashmir Himalayas and Upper Indus Basin. It finds that glaciers in these regions are experiencing significant ice loss and negative mass balance, with broader implications for water resources and ecosystems as climate change accelerates.

What the Event Is

This study demonstrates the large rooftop photovoltaic energy potential of China’s capital cities, showing that rooftop installations could also mitigate heat.
The primary outcome of our work is the strong evidence that flood hazards are related to the structural setting of the basin, which includes topography and geology, while the transition of flood hazards into disasters is mainly because of unplanned urbanization.
