SDG flag flying against a blue sky

As we enter the ninth year since the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, the pressing need to meet these ambitious objectives becomes ever more evident.

Climate change is driving the need for cool spaces, which currently relies largely on mechanical air conditioning that consumes power and contributes to emissions. This article examines how to create a passive cooling system with good ventilation using no mechanical equipment, achieving sub-ambient temperature cooling that could be extended to larger homes and structures. As such, it supports SDGs 3 (ensuring access to cool livable spaces), SDG 9 (more sustainable infrastructure to cool homes), and SDG 13 (reducing the need for traditional air conditioning).
This chapter aligns with goals 6 and 9 by highlighting improved sustainability practices in terms of preparation, lifecycle, and application of bionanocomposites, including their application in wastewater remediation, biomedicine, and agriculture.
This study supports SDGs 9 and 15. The permafrost on the Tibetan Plateau has been significantly degraded becuase of global warming. This article assessed the future stability of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
In this episode of the "World We Want" podcast, Márcia Balisciano speaks to Dr. Christian Leitz, Managing Director, Secretary of Corporate Culture and Responsibility Committee, and Group Historian and Lead for Long-Term Archives at UBS. During the course of their conversation they cover the challenges to achieving sustainability from all aspects—from historical lessons to providing financial impetus to invest in sustainability.
This chapter advances the UN SDG goals 3 and 9 by exploring how the Internet of Things can play a future role in curbing pandemic situations.

Heavy duty freight transportation is a key part of global transportation, but is a large contributor to growing CO2 emissions. Here the authors design an on-board system for heavy duty vehicles to capture CO2 as it is released. This supports SDGs 7 (reducing CO2 emissions toward clean energy), 9 (modifications to existing vehicles to mitigate carbon emissions) and 13 (reducing emissions that contribute to climate change).
Intellectual Property (IP) refers to anything that originates in the human mind, including theories, conceptions, discoveries, anecdotes, works of literature. World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is highlighting the critical importance of intellectual property (IP) in catalyzing the human innovation and creativity needed for achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper discusses the existing IP rights and breakthroughs in the field of IPP research; provides discussions on hardware IP and software IP attacks and defense techniques; summarizes different applications of IP protection; and identifies the challenges and future research prospects in hardware and software IP security.
