The prevalence of borderline personality disorder (BPD) in adults who have in been in prison is higher compared to the general population. Women have higher prevalence rates of BPD in prison compared to men. This article examines the nature of BPD in prisons and to help to inform prison-staff education, funding and intervention options, and adequate care for an already at-risk population.
