Community participation is the key to the success of any public health intervention. In this chapter, we first introduce the topic of community participation and synonymous terms. We then understand how community participation can help in improving the quality and coverage of public health services. We then go through some commonly used models of community participation, the scope of community participation in health, some success stories, the challenges of community participation, and the evolution of community participation in India. We then conclude with a section on the way forward.
